Buying a Firearm Online

How This Works

So how do you buy a gun on-line?

The biggest difference between buying guns online and any other thing you buy on the internet is that it has to be shipped to FFL (Federal Firearms License) holders. FFLs are the only individuals who can legally receive a gun through shipment or carry out the legal transfer of ownership. We are an FFL, and with our vast inventory, we can ship your purchase to any FFL holder within the United States.

This requirement only applies to guns - handguns, pistols, rifles, shotguns, other serialized components, and the like. Magazines, ammunition, optics, and other accessories don't have to go to an FFL - they can ship right to your address!

To find FFL holders near your location, most sites have an FFL finder, allowing you to enter an address or a zipcode to find FFLs close to you. If not, you can search here. Not all FFLs want to do transfers, so make sure you contact them in advance. Ask them if they will do your transfer, and let them explain the process to you. This discussion should include communication frequency, costs, and other rules or guidelines they follow. FFL holders charge fees for the transfer of ownership, which is usually less than $50, but they are free to set their own fees as they see fit. These are professional business people who have spent a lifetime establishing and maintaining their business, so you should treat them respectfully. It is important to establish a relationship with the FFL, as you may need them in the future for repairs, ammo, accessories, or other advice. Treat them like you would want to be treated, and understand they have specific rules they must follow to avoid significant penalties from the ATF.

Once your firearm has been delivered to your chosen FFL, you will need to go to their place of business. Once there, you will complete an ATF Form #4473, and a background check will be done on you. If you clear the check, the FFL will release the weapon to you (timeframes may vary, depending on your state's waiting period laws, if any). If you are denied for any reason, the FFL holder is legally obligated to hold onto your gun until the exceptions are cleared. If you are not cleared, you will not be able to receive the firearm, and your funds are lost. FFL holders are required to keep the records of any firearm they have received. FFLs can be fined by ATF if found not in compliance with the rules.

It is your responsibility to know the laws in your local area. FFL holders are legally obligated to not release a firearm without a legal transfer of ownership. FFL holders can be fined if they release a gun without the proper forms and checks are done.

Buying online has its advantages; the selection is much broader, as local shops cannot inventory everything. Online gun stores show the inventory that is immediately available from a number of wholesalers. You may be able to find a similar or better model, if the exact one you want isn't available. On our site, you can register to be notified by email when it's back in stock, preventing you from having to make repeated calls or constantly refresh a webpage.

When buying online, make sure you go over the model of the gun you're looking at in great detail - all the way down to the SKU and model number. There are many variations of the same gun. Features and colors vary, as does the capacity in many cases. This is to accommodate various state laws and regulations. Details like capacity, colors, number of included magazines, optics installed vs optics ready, barrel lengths, and sights, to name a few, can all be different. That's why its important to check the model number and SKU to make sure you are ordering exactly what you want. If is difficult and expensive to return a handgun to our wholesaler, if not downright impossible. Therefore, and to reiterate, check everything!

Once you buy a gun online, you will usually have it quickly. In many cases, it's only 3-4 days, but it can extend to 5-10, depending on shipping delays or high volumes at the FFL's location.
